I've really enjoyed getting to discover a whole new region of my vast, beautiful homeland. This was one heck of a trip. (see I'm still Southern ya'll). We were gone for just over a month, spending about a week in each of the following places; Colorado, Arizona, Las Vegas, and Florida.
I'm always super excited to go back home, but this time even more so because I hadn't seen my parents in over a year and two months (the longest we've ever gone) and I hadn't been back to Florida to see my friends since moving three and a half years ago. I think it's hard to cultivate meaningful, deep friendships. It seems to gets harder with age, and it's even harder doing it in a second language. I can't express how much I was looking forward to spending some quality time with friends I haven't see for all too long.
We couldn't resist squeezing in a four night cruise to the Bahamas and my two high school besties, Kaz and Mollie along with their boyfriends, were able to come with us! Adding the cherry on top were two of our dear Swedish friends, Victor & Julia, who met up with us in Florida and came on the cruise as well.
This year I took a two week solo trip to visit my parents and sister. The trip started off with a short two day stop in Florida where I got to see of one of my best friends and some of my favorite cousins. Then I flew out to Colorado and spent a week at my parents house. I did some sewing with my Mom, fishing with Dad, ate lots of good food, and just enjoyed being with them. We then started making our way to our final destination of Las Vegas which is about 7 hours away from my parents place. We stopped at Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon, and The Grand Canyon on our way. It was an incredibly scenic, beautiful drive. I hadn't spend much time out west before this trip and seeing this diverse, desert landscape, so uniquely different from was I am accustomed to in The States, was truly breathtaking.
